It is November and that means a new theme! This month’s theme is dedicated “Video Game Movies” and what an absolute delight it is to start off with the infamous, cult classic: Street Fighter (1994).
The film that is revered for it’s over the top cheesiness, terrible fight scenes and brilliant acting from it’s stellar cast, led by Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia. This film is the epitome of why video game films have a certain reputation.
Jean-Claude Van Damme’s believable performance as the all American, Colonel Guile. Raul Julia’s emotional performance as the misunderstood villain, M Bison. An assortment of characters that are too many to name. If these aren’t enough to convince you to watch the film, we don’t know what it is.
Listen along to hear our hosts talk about the film with our guest, Paul Bestolarides (that you may remember from our episode of The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl, another great film, might we add). As they talk about traditional Chinese garments, fight choreography, Asian temples and listen to Randy moan about the lack of research and authenticity to the real Street Fighter game.
Directed by Steven E. De Souza. Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen, Kylie Minogue, Byron Mann, Damian Chapa and Wes Studi.
“Col. Guile and various other martial arts heroes fight against the tyranny of Dictator M. Bison and his cohorts.”
