Episode 21: The Predator

Predator app (screen grab) CR: 20th Century Fox

Our theatre release film for this month is The Predator! Directed by Hawkins from the first Predator film, Shane Black, this film follows, you guessed it…a group of people fighting the predator. “When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters’ return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

It got slightly heated this week’s episode, as some of our hosts had very strong opinions about the movie!

Starring Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan Michael Key, Thomas Jane, and Sterling K. Brown. So watch along with us and tell us if you think this star studded cast and Shane Black created a worthwhile installment in the Predator franchise! And try to avoid the internet in general if you want to go in with no expectations.

Episode 20: Unbroken

19 Unbroken

We watched Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie. Written by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen, and starring Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, and Finn Wittrock it’s hard not to go into this movie with high expectations. And some of the film’s aspects live up to those expectations, others….not so much. “After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he’s caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.”

Tune in to listen to us discuss this film, we disagreed this week on our judgments of it and it makes for some interesting talk!

Episode 18: Get Out, Part 1

18 Get Out

Our first movie review episode of the month. This month’s theme is Actors Turned Directors so we will be watching movies that are directed by people that started out as actors (or still continue to be). And we are starting with a interesting one, Jordan Peele’s Get Out.

This one’s a two parter! We had so much to say this episode that we couldn’t shut up so we split this in to two parts for you guys! The second part will be out sometime later this week. We had some really great discussion about the themes of this film and their relevance in American culture. So come back for Part 2 to be a part of that! We would LOVE to hear your thoughts on what we talked about, so please comment below or email us to let us know what you guys thought of this movie and our discussion.

“A young African-American man visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.” Written and directed by Jordan Peele, this movie is his break out from the comedy stuff we were all used to seeing from him. Whether or not you like this film, I think you gotta recognize it as a really strong directorial debut!
